Of course not. It’s impossible as a small business owner to capture 100 percent of the people online who use social media. At the same time, you should be working toward one percent, then 10 percent and keep going. As a business owner, you cannot afford to miss the opportunity to get more customers. If most of them are using Facebook, Twitter or some other social networking website, that’s where you need to be.
Adweek reports:
New research shows that social media use has become a regular habit for three quarters of the online population.
In a survey of 1,700 U.S. Internet users, Nielsen Online found that 73 percent engaged in social media at least once per week. Engagement was defined as reading a blog, visiting a social network or reading (and/or commenting on) a message board. The research pegs the total U.S. social media audience at 127 million.
Adweek goes on to report that it’s becoming a daily habit for people to engage in some form of social media. That’s powerful information for the small business owner and entrepreneur, because you can market your products and services to them from your computer.
What you need to do is figure out what forms of social media can make people visit you every day. Then, decide what will intrigue them to keep coming back for more. For example, tweets about job listings attract the unemployed or people looking to switch jobs. A blog that gives out coupon codes and lists the latest, greatest deals every day will have shoppers coming back for more. What about your business? What will encourage people to visit your Facebook page often, or follow you on Twitter?
