3 Micro-Blogging Tips for New Entrepreneurs

Micro-blogging is different from regular blogging because the posts are shorter. Posting tweets on Twitter is the best known form of micro-blogging, and the maximum length of a tweet is 140 characters. You might be wondering how to leverage micro-blogging, given that you have such a small amount of space to say anything.

Micro-blogging Tip #1: Share Links to Other Websites

At first blush, it may seem counter-productive to share links to websites other than your own. It would be if you were directing traffic to competitors, which you should avoid. What you should be doing is linking to websites that help your target audience in ways that you can’t. It will build trust with readers, who will repay you for the information by visiting your website and recommending your Twitter account to friends and family.

Micro-blogging Tip #2: Inform, Don’t Sell

You’ll turn readers off when you try to sell your services and products when you’re micro-blogging. The only exception to this rule is if you offer great discounts or announce good sales. Otherwise, the goal of micro-blogging is to get readers to click through to your website to learn more. Take care of the selling there, not in your micro-blog posts.

Micro-blogging Tip #3: Turn Conversations into Leads

When you have opportunities to converse with readers because of one of your micro-blog posts, you should work to convert that reader into a lead. There’s a way to do it without hard selling and scaring them off. You most likely do it every day when cold calling, or handling inquiries. Do it when you micro-blog, even though it’s more challenging.

Don’t let micro-blogging intimidate you. The only way to do it well is to get started.

  1. The second tip is definitely true. Trying to sell products when you shouldn’t be doing it can drive away a lot of visitors. A fellow blogger made that mistake and it took more than a week to fully recover the lost traffic. Thanks for the share! Keep up the good job!
