Marketing Your Restaurant on Twitter

You might think that restaurants are exempt from social media marketing strategies. After all, restaurants are local, and you can’t really keep people engaged with ongoing posts, discussions or tweets, right? Wrong! Social media marketing is helping to boost the sales of fledging restaurants, and it can help yours, too. Consider using Twitter to market your restaurant.

Tweet Restaurant Reviews

Tweets from happy customers who dine at your restaurant have an impact. Encourage fans of your cuisine to become Twitter followers. Hold a promotion to entice them to follow you on Twitter, or to post a review. For example, have a laptop with Twitter loaded and ready to go, so that some people waiting for takeout or to be seated can post a review while they wait. Offer a free drink, a discount or something else for taking the time to tweet a review. They can tweet about waiting for their favorite pizza to come out of the oven, and what’s on it. Instruct them by posting a note nearby to include the name of your restaurant in the post, and you can show them how to copy and paste a link to your website when they’re done. You’ll be amazed at the buzz you can create, and locals on Twitter will be interested.

Train Employees on Twitter

Train anyone working the cash register, waiters or whoever you assign the tasking of soliciting reviews from on Twitter. You don’t want to risk losing a review because an employee didn’t have a basic understanding of Twitter. Have them post a review based on their favorite meal from an employee’s perspective. They’ll benefit from practicing what they’ll ask customers to do, and you’ll have one more review for your restaurant.

Don’t ignore using Twitter to market your restaurant. It’s a mistake that can cost you in additional sales.

I think Foursquare is more important to small businesses than Twitter.

Foursquare can be used as a free marketing tool to attract more customers to your restaurant and in turn cash.

Although not a restaurant owner, the article actually proved useful to me, as I was able to find interesting ideas. In good hands, the power of Twitter can make the difference and help you build a name, no matter in which business you’re taking part.
