Much of the talk about social media marketing is centered on consumers. That may not be your target market at all. Perhaps you only serve other businesses, a consultant, wholesaler or distributor. You may be wondering whether social media marketing works for business-to-business (B2B) sales. It does, and here are a few ways it can help your business grow:
Educate Business Owners
Business owners are using social media for the same purpose as you: To get more customers. What you need to do is get their attention, and educate them about your products or services. Take the same approach to marketing to consumers, but tweak it for fellow business owners. For example, don’t broadcast your sales and discounts to business owners, at least not heavily or initially. Inform them about what you do and what problems you can solve for their businesses, and always give them useful information that will make them want to learn more about you. Present yourself as an expert with every post or tweet, and you’ll get a flow of traffic, fans and followers who want more and more from you.
Engage Business Owners
Once you’ve got the attention of business owners, engage them in conversation. Email, send private message, and respond to questions and comments. Do what you can to let them know that you care about helping them reach a solution to a problem. Remember, they’re marketing on social media channels too, and they’ll know what you’re up to. However, they’ll appreciate that you’re not just trying to push your products on them, but that you’re helpful. You should get clients as a result of your efforts.
Social media marketing is key to B2B sales, so don’t neglect it. Schedule time daily or weekly to implement these suggestions.
