If you want to work from home, you may have to find freelance jobs. You’re probably already checking out job boards and ads on Craigslist, but you should also use Twitter to find jobs. Employers and independent contractors use social media marketing to meet. You’ll learn of new opportunities and you may be able to speak with a representative of human resources if you incorporate social media in your job search.
How It Works
Employers post job opportunities on social media channels. For example, an employer will list the job title in a tweet, and include a link to the website with a full job description. In some cases, they’ll include the pay rate to entice you to click through to the website. Once you visit the website and read the description, you can decide to apply for the job or pass.
How to Find Job Tweets
The two ways to find job announcements, also called “Job Tweets,” are to:
- Search posts using keywords for the type of work you’re looking for, like “freelance writing job” or “freelance journalism jobs”
- Find employers and recruiters in your industry and follow them to get tweets on new job listings
It’s possible to find jobs by using Twitter first, before they’re posted on job boards. Freelance jobs are competitive, and you have to do what you can to be one of the first people to apply for a job to compete effectively.
Send private messages to recruiters asking questions, or showing interest in a position in addition to sending in an application. It’s one more way to stand out from the crowd.
