One of the biggest mistakes that newbies have made when it comes to search engine optimization in 2010 is spreading their sites too thin. They’ve got a blog over here, a website over there, some other web activity on another domain name. This separation dilutes the effectiveness of optimization, and minimizes the ability to build up links and a web presence quickly. You should put everything together on one website.
Move Your Blog
A high ranking blog won’t do as much to build up your company website, if it’s not located on it. Even if some of your readers don’t make a purchase, you can benefit from the web traffic and inbound links. If your blog is on WordPress or BlogSpot, then you’re not benefiting from it as much. One of your first steps for search engine optimization in 2010 needs to be transferring your blog to your main website.
Consolidate Your Little Websites
Segmenting your products and services by hosting multiple websites is not a good idea. There are other ways to drive traffic to your website, and you’ll deplete, rather than build traffic. You could also create confusion in the marketplace, which is the worst thing you can do for your business or website. Niche marketing is still key, but you need one website that serves your niche, not many. If you have different businesses, then this rule does not apply. However, if it’s all the same work, then do yourself a favor and focus your time, energy and optimization on one website.
Consolidation of websites may seem counter-intuitive, but it’s one of the best things you can do for search engine optimization in 2010.
